Our History

158 years of historical heritage

Union Baptist Church was organized in 1846 and was the 30th church to join the Holston Association. The pastor was Noah Cate from Blountville, Tennessee. In 1986, Union Baptist sold their property on the Bristol Highway to the State of Tennessee, and relocated to Carroll Creek Road, adjacent to I-26 (formerly I-181). They incorporated and officially changed their name to Maranatha Baptist Church.

In the spring of 1991, God brought Calvary Temple of Elizabethton (the six year-old church pioneered by Pastor Hilton) together with Maranatha Baptist Church and merged the two in the old facilities at our present location.

Out of this blending of Christian hearts emerged Calvary Church. We are proud of our 158 year historical heritage in the Tri-Cities and our 20 years as Calvary Church. We are continually looking forward to ways to better serve the Mountain Empire Region.
